Sleep and recovery
tracking in India

Almost every Indian fitness app will show you how many hours you slept. Very few do anything with it, and none of the nutrition-first ones connect it to the two things that actually moved it.

Hours slept is not recovery. Recovery tracking means sleep stages, heart rate variability and resting heart rate, compared to your own baseline and combined into a score you can act on. The step nobody else takes is reading that score against your training load and your calorie intake — which is the difference between knowing you slept badly and knowing why.

What most apps give you, and what is missing

LevelWhat it showsWhat you can do with it
Hours slept7h 12mAlmost nothing. You knew.

Indian nutrition apps generally stop at row one or two. Dedicated recovery hardware — WHOOP, Oura, Garmin — reaches row four and stops there permanently, because none of them can see what you ate.

Why the last row is the whole point

A suppressed HRV and a raised resting heart rate have several common causes, and two of them look identical on a wearable:

  • Genuine under-recovery from accumulated training. The fix is to train less.
  • A steep calorie deficit. Sustained under-eating is a real physiological stress and produces the same pattern. The fix is to eat more.

Those fixes are opposites. Get it wrong and you cut training during a diet, lose muscle, and feel worse. A recovery app that cannot see your food cannot tell you which one you are looking at — and in India, where a lot of fat-loss advice pushes aggressive deficits, this is not an edge case.

What Nutri Macro tracks

  • Sleep stages — deep, REM, light and awake — with a sleep score.
  • HRV and resting heart rate against your own 30 to 60 day baseline, not a population chart.
  • A recovery score built from those, with the inputs visible so you can see which one moved.
  • Stress and readiness trends over the week rather than a single morning.
  • All of it beside your food and training, which is the part no recovery wearable offers.

It reads from Apple Health on iPhone and Google Fit, Health Connect or Samsung Health on Android. On Android that distinction matters: a Samsung watch needs Samsung Health support specifically, and plenty of apps only read one of the three.

How to use a recovery score without becoming a hostage to it

  • Treat it as a prompt, not a verdict. Open the inputs — a low score from short sleep means something different from one driven by a raised resting heart rate.
  • Watch the week. One red morning is noise; four in a row is a pattern.
  • Do not train the score. Chasing green leads to avoiding hard training, which is how you end up beautifully recovered and no fitter.
  • Give a new device two weeks to learn your baseline before believing it.

Try Nutri Macro

Free to download on iPhone and Android. Connect the watch or band you already own, and within a fortnight you will have a recovery score with your Indian food log and your gym sessions on the same screen — which is the only place a bad week has a visible cause.

Common questions

Does HealthifyMe track sleep?

It tracks sleep, generally by syncing hours and basic stage data from your phone or watch. What it does not do is build a recovery picture from HRV and resting heart rate against your own baseline, or read that against your training and your calories. If you want recovery rather than a sleep duration figure, that is the gap.

What is the best sleep and recovery app in India?

Dedicated hardware like WHOOP, Oura and Garmin produces the most sophisticated recovery scores but costs a subscription or a device and cannot see your food. Nutri Macro builds a recovery score from the sleep, HRV and resting heart rate your existing watch already records, and shows it next to your training and your calories, which is the piece the hardware brands structurally cannot offer.

Do I need a smartwatch for recovery tracking?

For sleep stages, HRV and resting heart rate, yes — those need a wearable that measures overnight. Any reasonably modern watch or band that writes to Apple Health, Google Fit, Health Connect or Samsung Health will do; you do not need dedicated recovery hardware. Food, workout and weight tracking all work with just a phone.

Why is my recovery score low even when I sleep well?

Most often one of three things: a hard session in the previous 72 hours, alcohol, or a sustained calorie deficit. The third is the one people miss, because under-eating raises resting heart rate and suppresses HRV in exactly the same pattern as overtraining. If you are dieting hard and your recovery has declined slowly over weeks, look at your calories before you cut training.

Does Nutri Macro work with Samsung Health?

Yes, and it is worth checking specifically because Android has three separate platforms. Google Fit, Health Connect and Samsung Health are not interchangeable, and an app that reads one does not automatically read the others. Nutri Macro reads all three, plus Apple Health on iPhone.

How much sleep do I actually need?

Most adults need seven to nine hours, and the individual number inside that range is fairly stable for you personally. Chasing a particular amount of deep sleep is less useful than it looks — deep sleep is largely determined by total sleep and by timing, so going to bed earlier does more than any of the optimisation advice around it.

Track this with NutriMacro

Sleep stages, HRV, resting heart rate and a recovery score from the watch you already own — shown next to the training and the calories that actually moved them.

NutriMacro is a nutrition and training tracker for iPhone and Android. It logs food by barcode, photo or search, counts food in slices and units rather than grams, and keeps strength training, GPS activities, sleep and recovery in the same daily view. It runs in the language of your phone across 108 countries.

  • Barcode, photo or search — packaged food scans in two seconds, a plate of home cooking gets photographed, everything else is searched.
  • Counts in units, not grams — two slices, one egg, a teaspoon. Where the pack states its own count, that figure is used rather than an average.
  • Calories and full macros — plus micronutrients, as a running daily total.
  • Strength training and GPS activities — in the same app, so training and eating sit on one day rather than in three apps that never speak.
  • Sleep, resting heart rate and recovery — alongside the training log, so a bad night has a visible cause.
  • Your own language — across 108 countries.
