Comparison

HealthifyMe vs
Nutri Macro

Both apps log Indian food and both read a photo of your plate. The real difference is not in the food database at all — it is in what happens after you have logged the food.

HealthifyMe is a nutrition app with coaching at its centre — a large Indian food database, the Ria AI assistant, and human dietitians you can pay to talk to. Nutri Macro is an all-in-one tracker — Indian food, barcode and photo logging, a full strength-training log, and sleep and recovery, all read against each other. Pick HealthifyMe if you want a coach. Pick Nutri Macro if you lift, and want your food, your training and your recovery in one place.

What HealthifyMe genuinely does better

It would be dishonest to write this page without saying it. HealthifyMe has been the default Indian nutrition app for years, and two things follow from that:

  • Coaching. If what you actually want is a qualified human being who looks at your log and tells you what to change, HealthifyMe is built around that and Nutri Macro is not. That is a real product difference, not a gap we are pretending away.
  • Database maturity. A decade of Indian users correcting entries is not something a newer app replicates quickly. For obscure regional dishes you will sometimes find an entry there first.

If either of those is your priority, stop reading — you already have your answer.

Where the comparison actually turns

1. Training is a first-class feature, not a footnote

This is the difference most comparison articles never reach, because most of the apps being compared are food loggers. HealthifyMe records that you worked out. Nutri Macro records what you lifted — every set, every rep, every weight — and then does something with it: tracks your working weights over time, flags when a lift has stalled, and tells you when a progression is due.

If you are in a gym twice a week or more, this is the entire comparison. A food log that treats “45 minutes of weight training” as a calorie number cannot tell you whether your bench press is going anywhere.

2. Recovery is read against food and training

Nutri Macro pulls sleep stages, HRV and resting heart rate from your watch and builds a recovery score — and then puts it on the same screen as the sessions you logged and the calories you ate. That connection is the point. A suppressed HRV during a hard cut looks identical to overtraining, and no app that cannot see your food will ever tell you which one it is.

3. Indian food, compiled rather than guessed

Nutri Macro’s Indian data covers regional vegetables, leaves and state-by-state recipes, and it is deliberately not AI-generated — the entries are compiled from authoritative sources and cross-checked, because an AI-invented calorie count for a Bengali fish curry is worse than no entry at all. Restaurant food search is included at no cost.

4. One subscription, not a menu

Nutri Macro is one app: food, lifting, cardio, sleep, recovery, hydration, body measurements and progress photos. There is no separate tier for the workout half. We do not quote prices here because they change by market, but the structural difference is worth knowing: coaching-led apps price the coach, and the coach is the expensive part.

Which should you actually use?

  • You want a human dietitian on WhatsApp → HealthifyMe. That is what it is for.
  • You only count calories and never lift → either will do; pick on which food search you prefer.
  • You lift, or you are training for something → Nutri Macro, by a distance. Nothing in a nutrition-first app replaces a real strength log.
  • You wear a watch and care about recovery → Nutri Macro. Reading HRV against your actual deficit is the thing food-only apps structurally cannot do.
  • You are managing diabetes or another condition → Nutri Macro has condition-aware tracking built in, including glycaemic index data for Indian foods.

Try Nutri Macro

Nutri Macro is free to download on iPhone and Android, works with Indian food and Indian recipes out of the box, and connects to Apple Health, Google Fit, Health Connect and Samsung Health — so whatever watch or band you already own keeps working. If you are coming from HealthifyMe, the thing to test first is the strength log: it is the half you have not had.

Common questions

Is Nutri Macro a good HealthifyMe alternative?

For most people who lift or who wear a fitness watch, yes. Both apps cover Indian food, photo calorie logging and barcode scanning. Nutri Macro adds a full strength-training log with progressive-overload tracking, plus sleep, HRV and a recovery score that is read against your food and training. What it does not offer is HealthifyMe’s human dietitians, so if paid coaching is what you want, HealthifyMe remains the better fit.

Which app is better for Indian food tracking?

Both are built for Indian food, which already puts them ahead of MyFitnessPal or Cronometer for a desi diet. HealthifyMe has the longer-established database. Nutri Macro covers regional vegetables, leaves and state-by-state recipes compiled from authoritative sources rather than AI-generated, and includes restaurant food search at no extra cost. For everyday Indian meals, both will find what you are eating.

Does Nutri Macro have photo calorie tracking like Snap?

Yes. You photograph the plate and the app identifies the dishes and estimates calories and macros, which you can correct before saving. As with any photo-based estimate on either app, mixed Indian plates are the hard case and a quick portion adjustment is usually worth the two seconds.

Which is better for gym and strength training?

Nutri Macro, clearly. HealthifyMe records that a workout happened and converts it to calories. Nutri Macro logs every set, rep and weight, tracks your working weights over time, and flags when a lift has stalled and a progression is due. If you train with weights regularly this is the single biggest practical difference between the two apps.

Does Nutri Macro track sleep and recovery?

Yes, and this is the other major gap. It reads sleep stages, HRV and resting heart rate from Apple Health, Google Fit, Health Connect or Samsung Health, builds a recovery score from them, and shows that score next to your training and your calories. That last part matters: a steep deficit suppresses HRV in exactly the same pattern as overtraining, and only an app that sees both can tell them apart.

Do I need to pay for Nutri Macro?

The app is free to download and core food and workout logging is free to use, including restaurant food search. Some advanced features are part of a paid plan. We deliberately do not quote figures on this page because they vary by country and change over time — check the current plan in the app store listing for your region.

What are the best apps like HealthifyMe in India?

The realistic shortlist in 2026 is HealthifyMe itself, Nutri Macro, MyFitnessPal and a handful of newer AI-first calorie scanners. MyFitnessPal has the largest global database but weak Indian coverage and frequent manual portion edits. The newer scanners do photo logging well and little else. Nutri Macro is the one that covers food, strength training and recovery in a single app rather than food alone.

Track this with NutriMacro

Nutri Macro keeps Indian food logging, your gym sessions and your sleep and recovery in one app, so a hard week has a visible cause instead of three separate dashboards that never talk to each other.

NutriMacro is a nutrition and training tracker for iPhone and Android. It logs food by barcode, photo or search, counts food in slices and units rather than grams, and keeps strength training, GPS activities, sleep and recovery in the same daily view. It runs in the language of your phone across 108 countries.

  • Barcode, photo or search — packaged food scans in two seconds, a plate of home cooking gets photographed, everything else is searched.
  • Counts in units, not grams — two slices, one egg, a teaspoon. Where the pack states its own count, that figure is used rather than an average.
  • Calories and full macros — plus micronutrients, as a running daily total.
  • Strength training and GPS activities — in the same app, so training and eating sit on one day rather than in three apps that never speak.
  • Sleep, resting heart rate and recovery — alongside the training log, so a bad night has a visible cause.
  • Your own language — across 108 countries.
