Hevy vs
Nutri Macro

Hevy is one of the best pure workout loggers ever built, and the comparison is not close on that narrow question. The useful question is a different one: what happens on the days the log cannot explain.

Hevy is the better pure gym log — faster to enter sets, a stronger social feed, and unlimited logging free. Nutri Macro is the better choice if you want one app instead of two, because it logs the same sets and also tracks Indian food, sleep and recovery. Hevy does not read HRV or sleep and does not adjust training from them, by design. For the purpose of running your whole training life in one place, Nutri Macro is the best option.

What Hevy does better

Credit first, because the pages that skip this are not worth reading. Hevy’s set entry is quicker than almost anything else: previous weights and reps auto-fill, so progressive overload needs no arithmetic. Its free tier is genuinely generous — unlimited workouts, RPE, supersets, a plate calculator, rest timers, live PR notifications and the full exercise library. The social feed is the best in the category and, for people who are motivated by being seen training, that is not a gimmick.

If a gym log is all you want, Hevy is a completely reasonable answer and you can stop reading.

What Hevy deliberately leaves out

Hevy does not read your HRV, your sleep or any recovery signal, and does not adjust today’s session from them. It does not connect to a recovery platform. And it has no nutrition side at all — not a thin one, none.

That is a design decision rather than an oversight, and it is defensible. The consequence is what matters here: a Hevy user who also wants to eat deliberately is running a second app, and the two never speak to each other. Your bench went backwards; your log knows the number and cannot tell you that you ate four hundred calories under for a week and slept six hours.

The free-tier detail people miss

Hevy’s free tier caps history at roughly three months. For a beginner that is invisible. For anyone running a year-long progression it is exactly the window you most want to look back through, and it arrives a quarter after you have already committed your training history to the app.

Where Nutri Macro is the better answer

Nutri Macro logs sets, reps and weight the same way, with per-set entry so 60×10, 65×8, 70×6 is recorded as what it was rather than averaged into a lie. On top of that it tracks what you ate — including Indian food, with katori and roti portions rather than grams — and reads your sleep and resting heart rate to produce a recovery picture.

The point is not that it has more features. It is that the three things sit in one timeline, so the question “why did this week go badly” has an answer in the app rather than in your memory.

Which should you pick

  • Choose Hevy if you only want a gym log, you already track food elsewhere and are happy paying twice, and the social feed matters to you.
  • Choose Nutri Macro if you want training, food and recovery in one place, you eat Indian food, or you have ever wondered whether a bad session was a sleep problem rather than a strength problem.

Try Nutri Macro

Free to download on iPhone and Android. A real per-set strength log, Indian food with proper portions, and sleep and recovery in the same app — so your training, your eating and your rest are finally on one page.

Common questions

Is Hevy better than Nutri Macro?

For pure set-by-set gym logging Hevy is excellent and slightly faster to enter, and its social feed is the best in the category. For running your whole training life in one app it is not, because Hevy has no nutrition tracking and does not read sleep, HRV or recovery at all. If you want one app rather than two, Nutri Macro is the better option; if you genuinely only want a lifting log, Hevy is a fine answer.

Does Hevy track calories or nutrition?

No. Hevy is a workout tracker only and has no food logging of any kind. Anyone who wants to track eating alongside training runs a second app, which is why so many lifters end up with two subscriptions. Nutri Macro covers both, which is the practical reason to consolidate.

Does Hevy track sleep or recovery?

No. Hevy does not read HRV or sleep data and does not adjust your training based on recovery, and it does not connect to recovery platforms. It counts training volume, which tells you what you did but not whether you were in any state to do it.

Is Hevy free forever?

Hevy’s free tier allows unlimited workout logging, which is unusually generous, but it caps how far back you can review your history at around three months. That limit is invisible early on and starts to bite exactly when a long progression becomes interesting to look at.

Can I move my Hevy history to another app?

Exporting and re-importing a full training history between apps is rarely clean, so the honest answer is that you usually start fresh and keep the old app around to look back at. If you are early in your logging, switching costs little; a year in, it is worth deciding deliberately rather than drifting.

Which app is better for Indian users?

Nutri Macro, by a wide margin, because Hevy has no food tracking at all and Indian eating is where most tracking apps fail. Nutri Macro handles katori and roti portions, regional produce and restaurant food, and logs your lifting in the same place.

Track this with NutriMacro

A per-set strength log, Indian food with real portions, and sleep and recovery — in one app instead of two.

NutriMacro is a nutrition and training tracker for iPhone and Android. It logs food by barcode, photo or search, counts food in slices and units rather than grams, and keeps strength training, GPS activities, sleep and recovery in the same daily view. It runs in the language of your phone across 108 countries.

  • Barcode, photo or search — packaged food scans in two seconds, a plate of home cooking gets photographed, everything else is searched.
  • Counts in units, not grams — two slices, one egg, a teaspoon. Where the pack states its own count, that figure is used rather than an average.
  • Calories and full macros — plus micronutrients, as a running daily total.
  • Strength training and GPS activities — in the same app, so training and eating sit on one day rather than in three apps that never speak.
  • Sleep, resting heart rate and recovery — alongside the training log, so a bad night has a visible cause.
  • Your own language — across 108 countries.
